Dear Foster City community, neighbors, and friends,

OUR SITUATION IS SERIOUS -- BUT WE CAN STILL SAVE OUR CITY

Our city officials have decided to bring even higher density mixed development along Foster City Blvd with three very large projects.
One project alone will bring 1800 new residents with no schools available for their kids. Highlights of project impacts:

      *  Over 36 new buildings; many 8 to 14+ story tall towers

     *  Public land used for private residences; City incentives = millions of dollars for developer

     *  Commercial land was just rezoned for residential; to place apartments on the freeway.

     *  All new resident children will be sent to schools outside of the city; FC schools are full.

     *  Gridlocked traffic, but developers are not required to pay for all road improvements needed.

     *  Citizens bear costs of improvements not paid by developers with taxes, bonds, assessments.

     *  The planning process is moving fast. One project past EIR. First groundbreaking in months.

Let our voices be heard. Become involved before it is too late. We do not want the time to come when we must endure massive construction activities, possibly starting next spring and lasting for the next 7 to 15 years; when we will witness the decline in our property values;  when we will lose the quality of life we now enjoy; and when the community we deeply care about deteriorates into just towers in the neighborhoods. Read on for more details.

LET US UNITE TO SAVE OUR CITY

Significant developments are unfolding in Foster City which will forever impact our community and the quality of our lives as residents.  The City Officials and Management are leading a massive redevelopment effort which will give rise to a number of high intensity buildings.

As of July 2008, we estimate that there will be over 36 new buildings, mostly high-rise, which will be built in the next few years, if the plans of our city officials will be fully implemented.

The City’s plan is fraught with serious concerns and issues, including the loss of our last piece of public land for our public use. The City Council voted to allow developer Sares Regis to build Mirabella,a private retirement community on the 15-acre vacant public land between the City Hall/Library and the Peninsula Jewish Community Center. We believe that piece of land should remain public, and must be used to serve the needs of the residents, and not for the gain of a private developer and a handful of private individuals.

Given the magnitude of the change and the severity of the issues involved, there has been very limited information disseminated by the City government to the public. It is quite perplexing to learn that a typical Foster City resident, when queried, is not aware of these developments; or if has some degree of awareness, his/her information is quite limited or fragmented.  Consequently, a composite picture of the likely scenario of what Foster City will become and the negative impact to the quality of life of the residents are not evident.

In the light of this, a growing number of Foster City residents have decided to launch this website with the following objectives:

• To provide residents unbiased information

• To highlight the issues facing the community and its residents

• To increase an awareness of our rights as citizens

• To mobilize residents to be involved to preserve our community and quality of our lives

• To ask for accountability and transparency from our City Officials

We urge you to read the rest of the content of this website to be informed on the issues concerning the City government’s redevelopment plan. We request you to:   (1) write and/or e-mail our City Council about your issues and concerns; (2) attend City Council and Planning Commission meetings; and (3) lastly, we encourage you to be involved.

Let us save Foster City from overbuilding and high-rise towers. Let us work to preserve the quality of our lives in our community.  Let us demand the public use of our last piece of public land. We have our inalienable rights as citizens on our side.

Let us unite together to make a difference.
